Bridging Global Divides: The 2025 Presidential Peace Conference in Istanbul

The Presidential Peace Conference: Healing in a Divided World was held in Istanbul, Turkey on February 20-22 and was led by Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick in partnership with Bahçeşehir University.



With over 1,000 delegates from 85 countries, the Rotary community and partners to include Elizabeth Spehar, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support, the Rotary community and partners explored the challenges and solutions in bridging the global divide in technology, media and environmental issues towards sustainable peacebuilding.


Rotary Club Washington Global President Rose Cardarelli provided the keynote address to open a session on Sustainable Development and Environmental Issues in Peacebuilding.



Session speakers included Nada El Agizy of the League of Arab States, Yana Abu Taleb of EcoPeace Middle East, and Kumi Naidoo, a Human Rights and Climate Justice Activist, with panelists Yasar Atacik and Mohamed Delawar.


The conference was a resounding success and promoted Rotary International’s intent “to promote world understanding, goodwill, and peace…”
